this is Val from Skinny-Fat Girl Diary! Today I have a really fun love-inspired shoot to share with all of you… just in time for Valentine’s Day. Many of you might not know this, but in addition to being a blogger, I’m also the photographer behind Valorie Darling Photography. I collaborated with my makeup artist friend Artistry By Danika to put together this carefree and romantic shoot. We also had a bit of design and decor help from Team LC’s own Ilana (also of Bookend Events). I hope you all enjoy these images as much as we do…
The morning of the shoot Ilana and I ventured to downtown Los Angeles to check out the flower district. We collected a gorgeous array of florals in yellow, blush, pinks and white. Ranunculus, anemone, hydrangeas and dahlias, oh my! If you have a flower district in your city, it’s a great way to buy flowers at wholesale—about half of what they would cost at a florist.
After that, I headed toward the coast, where the real magic happened. We started the shoot off on my beach cruiser. I decorated the wicker basket with some of the flowers to add an extra pop of color and tie in the florals throughout.
After some cruisin’ through the Venice canals we decided to hit the beach! Our tent backdrop was created using bamboo sticks (in an X), clothespins, hair ties, and a thin silk fabric in mint. I know, I know… you might as well call me MacGyver!
We all loved the idea of celebrating love around the world. So we used vintage luggage, hand-written love letters, and a framed map of where the couple’s love will take them. The incredibly unique folded books are from Novel Brand. (They also do custom orders!) The sweet felt dove ornament hanging from the globe is from Lauren Conrad’s new online shop, The Little Market! It’s handmade by women in Nepal.
Alex and Chelsey were the perfect lovebirds for this shoot! They’re such a gorgeous couple and have an epic love story to boot. Check out this amazing song he wrote for her and the music video he did to win her back… Talk about a storybook sort of love!
I hope you all are inspired to set the mood this year and create something special for that someone special.
