You spend oodles of time and money on good skin care. But bad habits may be sabotaging your efforts. Find out what horrifies dermatologists and learn how to properly pamper your skin

In the quest to look gorgeous, women do a number on their skin.

You exfoliate daily, try lots of potions and lotions, and OMG, did you really just squeeze that zit?

"Several habits, such as popping pimples, may seem harmless, but they can damage your skin," causing scarring, wrinkles and blotchiness, says D’Anne Kleinsmith, M.D., a dermatologist in West Bloomfield, Mich.

Others are more dangerous and could lead to skin cancer.

Check out these top 10 bad skin care habits. Then get dermatologist-recommended tips to take your complexion from lackluster to radiant:

Worst skin-care habit #1: Popping pimples
You just can’t stand that ugly, pus-filled zit on your face. What to do? Squeeze it? That’s a skin-care no-no.

Skin risks: Picking pimples can force bacteria deeper into the skin, increasing inflammation and redness and making acne worse.

Plus, “picked pimples always take longer to heal,” Dr. Kleinsmith says. Worse, they often leave behind brown spots and scars.
