Designer Benjamin Dhong balanced the "masculine strength" of the custom bed in a San Francisco row house with a vintage Curtis Jere brass porthole mirror and gold Murano glass lamps by Steve Jensen from William Switzer: "I like the geometry of clean, straight lines and hard angles, but it can be oppressive. Circular elements are compelling and very human.
The bedroom is a study in contrasts. The ceiling, painted in Farrow & Ball's high-gloss Hague Blue, appears even more reflective about the soft matte texture of the red Hudson Bay blanket by Woolrich. The ornately carved midcentury Italian starburst mirror punctuates the plain expanse of wall painted Benjamin Moore's Coventry Gray. Glimmering nailheads outline Hickory Chair's Chelsea Bed by Thomas O'Brien.
Sophisticated Teenager's Room
Designer Amanda Nisbet's daughter's room in a New York apartment is "hip and young, with splashes of modern art" by Polly Apfelbaum hanging on the bookcase, and Gregg Carbo over the bed. "It's a room she can grow into, although I've left some little-girl elements." The extra-tall headboard and the window shade are Canovas's Mantego Tourmaline within navy-blue cotton tape. Carpet is Stark's Beaton in brown. Note the stylized Greek Key on the rug and headboard.
