Italy is the most expensive holiday destination in Europe

Eurostat has released figures branding Italy as the most expensive holiday destination in Europe.

The research reveals that hotel and restaurant prices are some 10 percent higher than the European average and those high prices are damaging the tourist trade in Italy.

It was not good news for the country as its economy continues to struggle following the financial crisis.

What makes it worse is Europe remains a highly desirable holiday destination with tourist numbers up by five percent in 2013.
