Our Banana Experiment proves this food tip true, if you want to hold onto your bananas for longer and keep them from ripening quickly, separate them at the stem.

The bananas in the picture above were bought on a Monday, the three on the right were separated from the stem, and are clearly still greener than the ones at left, after two days.

The reason bananas ripen more quickly when they aren’t separated is because they emitethylene gas.
